Leonardi Massucci was born in Rome in 1953 and lived the first part of his life in the most famous and popular quarter of the capital, "Rioni Monti". Most building in this area were built in the 18th century above the foundations of Caesar's imperial Rome and they have gone through many changes during the centuries and still show, on the front of some building, fragments of the ancient roman era. The works of the artist originate from these strong sensations. Self taught, his first paintings were in oil, then acrylic. Over time, his work was transformed with the realisation that works containing varied materials provided the finished paintings with layers of depth and texture. Here, he has faithfully reproduced the building facades where the shopkeepers and artisan's display their wares against walls blackened and damaged with the passage of time. The feeling of antiquity is visible in the old stones and bricks while the characteristic little fountains and balconies of the area complete the charm of the paintings. Leonardo has produced several exhibitions and this is his first here in the UK. He also undertakes private commisions. |
