La Boca is delighted to present a selection of works by Glitter artist, Steven Barrett.

"I re-create film stills and portraits of celebrities using nothing else but glitter. Celebrities have always fascinated me, in particular those with cult status and those with mass appeal. I love glitter because it is fun. I positively revel in its aesthetic qualities and enjoy the effects it provides. It compliments the images of celebrities enhancing the glitz and glamour of the lifestyle of the stars. It also means I can play. Although I take it very seriously, my artwork is fun, and I enjoy it immensely.

As for my influences and inspiration, I would say anything that is 'over the top' and colourful! The list is endless: Christmas, fairgrounds, lights, nightclubs, popular music, films, musicals, the 80's, carnivals......anything popular and trashy! My artwork is a combination of my response to these things and a small way of adding my own bit of trash to the world!

After graduating from Central St Martin's in 2000, with a BA Hons degree in Fine Art I have exhibited consistently ever since. Soon after graduation my first solo show was at the Farnham Maltings Gallery, Surrey after being selected for the third in their annual shows of 'New Work'. In 2001 I was selected for Artlink at Sotheby's International Young Art, which gave me the opportunity to exhibit and sell work in both New York and Israel. In 2005 I was one of six finalists in the annual 'Pride in the House' exhibition at Lauderdale House, London. To date I have had 12 solo shows and currently have 3 more planned in 2007 at various venues in  Central London."
