During 2006 the repairs to Bridge No. 1 have been completed. Both bridge parapets have been re-built back up to their original height and the bridge re-pointed as necessary. The next bridge, Shearwood Plantation Bridge, has also been rebuilt. The damaged parapet on Langford Bridge has been removed and repairs are under way. Some of the stones at bottom of the arch had come away and we were advised that they needed to be tied back together again with metal "staples" before the whole of the arch was covered in concrete.
In March of 2006 we had a "Civ Week" and 12 panels of track were laid across Shearwood Plantation Bridge and up through the cutting, ending about 20 feet south of Langford Bridge. The line side fencing across the top of the cutting was also completed during the week. Much work is still required to bring the line north of World's End up to passenger carrying standards.
Steady progress has been made on the repairs to Langford Bridge. By the end of 2006 a layer of concrete had been poured over the arch and work started to rebuild the parapet on the west side. A water-proof membrane was also laid across the arch in readiness for back filling to start.
