Yacht Sea Essay of Hamble

Introduction

This is an occasional document issued by the Yacht Secretary, which will be placed on the CSD website and sent to all CSSA approved Skippers in CSD when there is new and/or important operational information to promulgate. A copy is also held on board Sea Essay. There is no intention to produce newsletters on a regular basis. Each one is numbered in sequence so recipients can identify if any are missing.

Items for this issue of the Skippers Newsletter are as follows:-

Heads System

The normal operation is for the heads to be discharged through the holding tank to sea and the discharge seacock should be in-line with pipe. With the discharge seacock closed, (across the discharge pipe) waste will be held in the holding tank with an overflow overboard on the port side.

The only way to check the level is by dipstick through the deck suction outlet cap.

The sea cock when closed will result in the holding tank filling & when open will discharge to sea. It is suggested that the crews should be briefed to the effect that the normal heads operation is discharge direct to sea. If, in exceptional circumstances, eg alongside and the shore heads are shut, they have to use the holding tank, then this should be emptied by opening the discharge seacock at the first opportunity when at sea.

The basin waste has a sea cock which can be closed on port tack if it backflows.
