CSD Website

The current CSD webmaster is standing down in November 2012 and a volunteer with web building skills is needed to redesign and maintain the CSD website from, or preferably before, that time. If you are able to help the Club by taking on this task then please contact either Martin Bellamy csdys@btinternet.com or Eric Smith ericsmith@ukgateway.net in the first instance.

31 January 2011

A Special General Meeting has been called to approve a revised Constitution for CSD. The need for changes to the existing Constitution has been brought about by amendments made by CSSC to its Membership rules in 2011. SGM details and background paper together with copies of the existing and proposed Constitutions and voting form , can be found by following the blue links. Proxy voting is particularly welcome for this SGM.

We have been informed by MDL that they are introducing new procedures for the issuing of boat keys at Mercury. With effect from 1 August MYH will only issue keys to persons on an approved list supplied by CSD and we have agreed with MYH that this list will comprise the following:-

1) CSD Committee

2) CSD YH Team

3) Approved contractors working for YH team

4) CSSA Approved Skippers

CSD have provided MYH with lists of names for the first three categories and agreed with MDL that MYH will accept the CSSA Approved Skipper card in lieu of a constantly changing list of names of approved skippers.

As a result skippers will, in future, be required to show their Approved Skipper card when signing out the keys for Sea Essay. They should also take the charter agreement with them when signing for the keys, although this will no longer be accepted on its own.

A Skippers Newsletter 04/07 has been issued covering all these points.

The following important instructions have been received from CSSA:-

Safety Briefing - Before the start of every cruise, every Skipper MUST make a signed and timed, dated log entry stating that a Safety Briefing has been given to the crew. The scope and detail of the briefing and the manuscript log entry report describing the briefing are left to the Skippers' discretion. This activity is required to ensure that we continue to operate to standards of best practice.

Incident/Damage Reports - reports should be made to the Rear Commodore Offshore in the following circumstances:

a) If a crew member or any third party is injured on an Association Yacht or is incapacitated and requires hospitalisation for more than one day.

b) Any time a third party claim is or may be made against a club yacht, skipper or crew.

c) An incident resulting in the withdrawal of a CSSA yacht from service for more than a week.

d) Any circumstances likely to result in prosecution or litigation in respect of a CSSA yacht or crew.

e) Any reported conduct by a skipper or crewmember that is such that his or her continued approval as a CSSA skipper or CSSA membership is put in question

f) If HSE, MCA, RYA or other authority requires a statutory report.

The notice below has been received from CSSA:-

CSSA SKIPPERS - Radio Operator and First Aid Certificates

Radio Operator Certificates

The CSSA yachts are now fitted or being fitted with GMDSS compatible DSC VHF radios. To operate these radios CSSA Skippers will require a Short Range Certificate (SRC). Holders of a Restricted Certificate of Competence in Radiotelephony (VHF only) will be required to obtain a Short range Certificate. CSSA Skippers who wish to charter an Association Yacht should upgrade their Restricted Certificate to a Short Range Certificate at the earliest opportunity. The Offshore Yacht Divisions organise update courses from time to time and skippers should approach the CSSA Training Principal or an Offshore Yacht Division training officer for information on future courses. All future approvals of members as a CSSA Skipper will require the applicant to have a VHF Short Range Certificate.

First Aid Certificates

All CSSA Skippers chartering a CSSA yacht must have an in date First Aid Certificate. The Offshore Yacht Divisions have been asked by the CSSA General Committee, as part of its duty of care to members, to ensure that all charter skippers have an in date certificate.
