Poolway House is a 16th Century Manor House, one of the four oldest houses in Coleford dating back to 1590. Throughout its history, Poolway House has a deserved reputation for being one of the Forest of Dean’s foremost houses, both for its modest charm and as the home to the Cavalier Colonel Morgan Worgan, saviour of King Charles at the battle of Edgehill 1645.

You will enjoy a friendly welcome, from Michael and his staff, and with a wealth of knowledge from regularly cycling and walking the Forest and Wye Valley. We will help to ensure you enjoy your stay in this excellent area.

Mountain Biking In The Forest Of Dean, Wye Valley & Tintern Forest

35 Sq miles: 3,000 miles of tracks and paths, weave your way through the wooded valleys and hills of Britain's largest Broadleaf Forest, a hunting ground of Kings.

The Forest of Dean sits between the flood plains of the river Severn and it vast open views and the steep sided Wye Valley, a green valley and riverside pubs. From the hill tops take in the view to the North over the River Wye to the Black Mountains and the Malvern Hills, to the East, the Cotswolds Gloucester and Cheltenham.

The Forest is NOT all steep hills and gullies, for the less energetic follow the old disused rail tracks left behind from the forests industrial past, along leafy tracks, beside streams, ponds, old mines and over bridges. The Forest must surely be a mountain biker's heaven, a designated area of outstanding natural beauty an the variety of terrain. If you want to cycle off road the Forest of Dean is ideal. There are many local tourist attractions, waymarked walks and conservation areas and RSPB bird reserves.

  • FoDCA1 is a superb technical waymarked single track in Sallowvallets just behind the cycle centre over 2 miles long, Presently some parts are in poor condition but it is an excellent challenge (there will be the first working party of the year on 30th March meeting at 10.00am at the start of the trail). fodca.co.uk
