The Ozark Hills of Missouri are a far cry from the prairies. One can immediately see the attraction that persuaded Laura and Almanzo to settle here in 1894. Everything is much greener with abundant trees indicating that it was going to be much easier to grow things here. Just a mile west of Rocky Ridge Farm is the small town of Mansfield. In the centre, set in a small grassed area is a bust of Laura Ingalls Wilder looking over the town she visited so often and whose people were so proud of her. The town is unremarkable in itself but here can be seen the Bank built just 2 years before the Wilders arrived. A building on the main street suggesting by a long faded advertisement that this was where Almanzo bought his Chevy. There is the Laura Ingalls Wilder Library with signed books and other items. Lover's of Laura's books will probably not be too impressed but those fascinated about her later life will be pleased to see the place where Laura lived most of her life.
