Greetham village pond in the centre of the village from the northern end looking south. The pond is a 'dew pond' although there is some run off from the road
when it rains. The pond is clay and flint lined. It was cleaned out by
the village in Spring 1996 to remove surplus silt and weed. The remains
of a well which supplied the dairy at Black Horse Farm lies in the east
bank. A well by the back door of the Farm contains crystal clear water
at a depth of approximately 15' below ground level.
The lane across the northern end of the pond is called 'Mill Lane' after a wind driven post mill which stood nearby.
Beech Farm is currently being restored and has raised much interest. It
is believed to be the oldest of its type and construction in the
country. Its timber frame has been carbon dated as being part of the
late 14th and early 15th centuries. My thanks to Mr Foster Allan of Black Horse Farm, Greetham, for this information.

The old grass covered eastern lane to Greetham taken from its junction with the road. Parts of the original surface is still exposed. The stoney soil at the left of the lane can be seen.
