In
the days of the Commodore Amiga, Mental Image produced games in raw 68000 assembly
language, 'hitting the metal' of this wondrous beast, and we now provide copies
of those games for you to enjoy. These files are designed to be run on a PC using
an Amiga Emulator. We would recommend that you try WinUAE
which can be downloaded from the amazing Back
2 The Roots fully legal emulator site. Here, as well as getting all the Mental
Image games, you can download a great deal of fully legal Amiga games donated
by the authors. Click on the pictures to download the games. | Mental
Image Gamedisk 1 (583KB) - 1991 |
|---|
This
was our first release as Mental Image. This disk contained three games: Rebound
(an Arkanoid clone with level editor), Invaders (a sideways scrolling shoot-em-up
in the vein of Atari's "The Empire Strikes Back"), and Gridrunner. The
latter is an Amiga port of the game made famous by Jeff Minter on the VIC20 and
the Commodore 64, and was done with the great man's permission. Trivia fact -
the llamas on the title screen were provided by Jeff from the original graphics
from Llamatron! | | Mental
Image Gamedisk 2 (599KB) - 1992 |
|---|
Following
the success of Gamedisk 1, we were keen to repeat it, but the follow-up took nearly
a year to complete. Once again, it contained three games: Invaders 2 ( a much
slicker and visually appealing follow up to the game on thje first disk), Satu
(a puzzle game with pretensions of oriental origin, which has been coded on every
system since the ZX81, ours was just swisher....), and Willy In The Castle of
Dreams ( a flip-screen platformer with a boy scout as the main character!) | | Winning
Post (462KB) - 1993 |
|---|
Dave
Robinson from "A Bit On The Side" PD was a good friend to us and, having
great experience of the shareware scene, told us that the winning formula was
fruit machines - he was right! We wanted to do something special, and used the
Amiga's legendary "Copper" chip to shade the reels into a proper curvature.
Additionally, we were privileged to now have with us the graphics talents of David
Tolley, now of Runecraft. We were stunned
at the response to this game, and very pleased too! | | Bandit
Mania (1210KB) - 1994 |
|---|
How
could we not do another one? This was our finest hour with three different fruit
machines including all the features requested after Winning Post. We spent ages
(and loads of money!) looking at the features of all the advanced fruit machines,
trying to incorporate as many elements as we could to make the games more playable.
Like all Mental Image productions, there were plenty of hidden sub-games. Also,
fact fans, Bandit Mania was released before Pinball Mania, so there Team17! | | Technology
2 (1018KB) - 1994 |
|---|
By
1993, the Amiga was reaching the end of it's distinguished career, and we released
this as the last of our contributions - a combination of fruit machine and demo
on the title screen. Unfortunately, we were let down very badly by the foremost
Amiga magazine at the time, Amiga Format (spit!), who were to carry a demo of
this game. However, they dumped us in favour of FIFA 2010 or whatever, and we
had to endure pirated versions of our game online before we had released it. Oh
well. |
