SF is central to what the Peterborough Science Fiction Club is all about. In the first year of it's existence it co-hosted a visit by local author Dan Morgan. Mr. Morgan's career covered more than 25 years and his many novels included a handful about ESP and a few space operas co-written with another local, John Kippax.
In the mid-eighties the Club organised a meeting with Bob Shaw as the guest. In 1988 he returned to be a guest at the Club's Convention, Congregate. Other guests included Iain M. Banks and Terry Pratchett. After this, the Club regularly invited SF authors to come to the City. The next being Josephine Saxton who came in 1989.
Since 1991 our guests have included Stephen Baxter, Stephen Bowkett, Kieth Brooke, John Dickson, Julian Flood, James Follett, Colin Greenland, Jon Courtenay Grimwood, Peter F. Hamilton, Simon Ings, Gary Kilworth, Kim Newman, Lisanne Norman, Robert Rankin, Nicholas Royle, Brian Stableford and Ian Watson.
A number of the Clubs members have had their own work published and in 1994 the Peterborough SF Writers Circle was founded to try and assist and encourage them.
As well as contemporary writers, the Peterborough SF Club exists to celebrate authors with a local connection such as J.D.Beresford, L.P.Hartley and David I. Masson.
