BAJOR IN FLAMES
"Reports are coming in of continued fighting on Bajor, our correspondant on Bajor has filed this report."
"Fresh
fighting broke out during the night around the capital, rival
factions belonging to the New Dawn movement have reportedly
banded together and have made a concerted effort in taking the
Assembly buildings. The First Minister and his Government have
reportedly taken refuge on DS9. The Vedek Assembly has pleaded
for calm and an end to the current unrest. Vedek Ho, leader of
the New Dawn movement went on air this morning demanding the
withdrawl of what he calls the 'Federation army of occupation'
and the unconditional surrender of the First minister and his
Government. We had hoped to get an interview with Vedek Ho but
after the killing of Federation Ambassador Rodreguize all
Federation citizens are being evacuated from Bajor.

"News now from our man on DS9."
"Here
today we may be witnessing the final moments of Federation
involvement in the Bajoran system, Admiral Ross, Colonel Kira,
Captain Sykes and Captain Ch'tatch all met with the First
Minister this morning and a statement is expected any time soon.
I can tell you that the USS Yorktown and USS New Jersey
have been withdrawn from the area, the USS Defiant and USS Pike
are still here and Starfleet personel have been transporting
aboard all morning.

Even in his wildest dreams Ho had not thought events would have progressed at such a rate. It was little over two weeks since he had planted his first device, since then the movement had grown from day to day. He had been lucky the day of the attack on DS9, that crazy Klingon was nearly the death of him, but the Pah Wraiths looked over thier own and he had survived, and now on the eve of the Choumalon Festival he was on the verge of siezing power, all that reamined was for the First Minister to capitulate and he would declare himself Kai. The Assembly would back his appointment, if only to restore peace, but as soon as he was appointed the real work would begin.

NEWS CONFERENCE - DEEP SPACE 9
"We take you live to our reporter on DS9 as the meeting between Bajor and the Federation breaks up. What's happening Jake?"
"Well the meeting came to an end a few moments ago, there has been no official statement from either side as yet but unofficial sources close to Admiral Ross say a withdrawl is on the cards."
"How does the situation make you feel Jake, you lived here for seven years with your father, this is the first time you have returned since his disappearence."
"To tell you the truth I hav'nt had time to think about my feelings, I know one thing if my father had been still in charge, this situation would'nt have got this bad and.....wait a minute here comes Admiral Ross...........Admiral,Admiral have you anything to say."
"If you'll all bear with me I have a statement to read and then I'll answer a few questions.The statement reads as follows. In accordence with the Federation Charter section 32a, Starfleet is withdrawing from the Bajor sector, Deep Space 9 will finally revert to Bajoran control under the full command of Colonel Kira, the USS Defiant will be re-assigned a new patrol sector. In accordence of the Treaty of Betazed protection and monitoring of the Wormhole will now fall under the juristiction of Starbase 145, which if you are unaware is nearing conpletion on the Gamma side of the Wormhole. The Bajoran Government has agreed that access to the Wormhole will not be restricted. Right any questions." "Admiral, when was the new Station decided on................"
Kira was still furious, even though she knew the decision was the right one, it did'nt FEEL right, but Admiral Ross' points had hit home the awful truth about post war Starfleet. "You have to realise Colonel." Ross had said. "We have to patrol the Federation now with roughly the same amount of ships we had 100 years ago. Our ship buiding program is not swift and recruitment is at an all time low, confidence in the security of Starfleet is very weak. So you must agree putting in resources and manpower here - a non-Federated world - would not be deemed inappropriate by the council." She had agreed and so the withdrawl plan had been drawn up. However she was not prepared to hand over the station to the rebels and with the First Minister they were putting togeather plans for a counter offensive.

BAJORAN CIVIL WAR
"News has reached us that Government troops have pushed the New Dawn forces back from the Capitol. Helped by Mercenary troops supplied by the Ferengi Governmet troops led by veteren Colonel Kira Neyrs have reclaimed the outlieing suberbs. The First Minister has released a statement saying that on no terms will he hand over power to the rebels. On other news, the final Starfleet personel left the area today. Captain Sykes and the Defiant went through the Wormhole to take up station at Starbase 145."

WRITERS NOTE.
I have left this open as I may decide to come back to it sometime and do JIHAD Book II. However if anyone else thinks they can carry it on they are free to do so. I am involved in other projects at the moment which will continue the Defiant story in the Gamma Quadrant. I hope you enjoy read this as much as I did writing it.
