The Name?
To start with *Qummem is not strictly CANNON. I realise that for an organisation that was started to help locate others interested in the Klingon Culture, in particular the language, the name was somewhat of a problem; IT'S NOT CANNON hence the *. I choose the name, 'The Klingon Directory' for a telephone/address directory of Klingons/tlhIngan Hol fans. But the name abbreviates to TKD which is the abbreviation used to refer to The Klingon Dictionary. So I thought I'd use a translated version. However, I soon found that there isn't a word known in tlhIngan Hol for 'Directory' so I thought I'd be clever and using what I thought was a principle suggested, by Marc Okrand, that some Klingon verbs appear the same as the noun counterpart i.e., Qum - communicate (v) to posssibly be the noun 'communication and then made the complex noun construction of 'communication' and 'catalogue' to form Qummem and mean Directory. **UPDATE Marc Okrand has since the later part of 1998 cannonised the use of Qum for the noun COMMUNICATION (as shown on the BoP poster). We must stress 'THIS IS NOT CANNON'. Effectively it should therefore be considered as the same as a name and not really meaning Directory. Obviously Marc Okrand can always prove me wrong when or if he ever gives us a word for 'directory'. But I think that I'm just dreaming.

tlhIngan Qummem.
A Communication Directory of Klingons and persons interested in Klingon culture and language.
The (Unauthorised) Klingon Lexicon.
A book bringing together all known Klingon words into a single list. This single list includes all suffixes and prefixes so that the reader, when looking up a word, will be provided with all options of that word. An good example here would apply to prefixes, the reader would able to look up the word without having to know whether or not it is the root word without a prefix or the prefix plus rot word, avoiding having to look in the various lists what could be several times. The author has also included a few sections of non-cannon observations and advise that he felt he could have done with when he started on the road to becoming a language warrior.
NB. The Klingon Lexicon is only available to those listed in the tlhIngan Qummem and who have declared that they have already purchased the appropriate Cannon media.

qe'San be'rawn
My mother, a terran, fought bravely in the battle of Venturi against the Romulans. As is known this battle was brought to an early end with the arrival of the IKV bortaS Captained at that time by Capt. Koragg. When found my mother stood proudly in front of her rescuers with several Romulans lying slain around her. She was commended by Capt. Koragg for her skills and was escorted to his quarters aboard the bortaS to rest. During the journey to DS7 my mother fell deeply in love with Koragg and before they reached their destination they became mates. The result was that I qe'San of the house be'rawn was born.
I learnt to be a warrior from an early age and won many battles before finally entering the Klingon Defence Cadets. I quickly rose up the cadet ranks. On leaving I ventured into intelligence and specialised in communications and architecture.
At one point I spent some time with Terrans. It was following this experience that I proposed to my superiors the wisdom of possessing the knowledge of which Terrans were paying an interest in the Klingon Empire, In addition to those already working with the Klingon Strike Force. I was subsequently ordered to complete this task. This order came directly from the High Council. I was to take on the role of 'Terran Liaison Officer' and produce tlhIngan Qummem (The Klingon Directory). This would be under the pretence of enabling Klingon language students to contact each other to improve their abilities. Although this would be the case it would increase personal contact between Terrans and Klingons. A Klingon warrior is after all always a Klingon warrior but Terrans through their normal upbringing are naturally too trusting. At the commencement of battle they would either be allies or likely hesitate to their cost. Additionally it was considered important to establish the location of all who were capable of translating Klingon communications and taking one of our many edges.
Since my arrival here on Earth I have decided to take on an alias of 'Jon Brown' and have made contact with the KSF. I have also infiltrated the Security Department of a major Terran communications company. I am prepared for battle at all times. This profile is highly confidential. Should it be shown to non allies of our glorious empire know only this "it will be the last thing you do before dying without honour".
