Subject: Reply from Codemasters ref:00270306 Date sent: Wed, 27 Aug 2003 09:07:30 +0100

The server has now closed down permanently

CMN Down Again

since around 00.05 on the morning of 11/07/2003 for how long nobody knows

Update 16:45 11/07/03 A message from Codies

Due to server problems, the server has been online for a while now. However, it will be shut down very soon.

Once the server problems have been recified, it will be down permanently

CMN IS BACK ONLINE

Yep for some strange reason its back up 15/05/2003 at 11.30am UK time GMT
so if you have un-installed CMN as I did then its time to dig out that disk & Re-install

To re-install CMN

Make sure you un-install CMN then manually delete the CMN folder then re-boot

Go to the CMN folder on your Insane CD then from there run the setup.exe after re-booting install the CMN patches

If you still have problems completely un-install Insane & CMN then re-boot & re-install Insane & CMN

(Don’t forget to reboot and install both the game and CMN Patches)

CMN Closed

It is with much regret that Codemasters announce that the CMN service will cease to be operational from 1st May 2003

Well the time finally came on the 01/05/2003 at 11:45am UK time GMT.

Remember CMN might have gone down the pan but Insane will go on Via Gamespy

Important: CMN Closure
It is with much regret that Codemasters announce that the CMN service will cease to be operational from 1st May 2003
The small number of players, particularly new ones, who use CMN, and the attractiveness of other third party services, such as
Gamespy means that it is no longer operationally viable. We have endeavoured to keep the service open, despite increasing costs,
for some time now without player numbers really supporting this position. Unfortunately to continue to do so is no longer possible.
We do sincerely thank everyone for their support of  Insane and hope that the community remains as active as it currently is.
Our Insane forum here will remain open and available for anyone wishing to organise an online game amongst themselves.
You can, of course, also play the game via Gamespy
www.gamespy.com

If you want to try and save CMN Post on Codies Forum Here

InaneHeat have set up a poll to see how many people want to see cmn stay online for the insane community VOTE HERE

Installing CMN Patches

remember to Install them you must be logged off of CMN

While you are on CMN you can go to the top of the window and click on Help

then About CMN to see what Version you have or

you can go to your c:\codemasters\cmn right click on cmn.exe then properties then Version

( if you installed cmn in a different location just change the path )

To Install put the Patch / Patches into your CMN Folder {not the patches folder}

Now double click on the patch you need

If you have version 3.0.39.0 Install the CMN Patch 1 then Install CMN Patch 2

If you have version 3.0.49.0 Just install the CMN Patch 2 If you have version 3.0.51.0 you don’t need to update

CMN Patch 1 à 3.0.39.0 to 3.0.49.0    CMN Patch 2 à 3.0.49.0 to 3.0.51.0

How CMN ratings work

The ratings are increased based on two factors, you're final race position
and a modifier based on your 'seeded or expected' finishing position when compared to the other drivers.

Part 1 - Your position

Your 'position score' is calculated by looking at your finishing
position relative to the mid-position.

For every position above the middle 10 additional points are awarded.
For every position below the middle, 10 points are removed e.g.:

Finishing place 'position score' component (with 5 drivers)

1 +20
2 +10

3    0

4 –10

5 –20

Part 2 - Modifier (Expected finishing order)

This factor allows mismatched drivers to play fairly against each other,
better drivers (with higher ratings) are expected to finish higher than new or inexperienced drivers.

The current rating of all drivers in the game is used to order the drivers into their expected finishing positions, for example the highest rated driver is expected to come 1st.

If a driver comes ABOVE

their expected position, they are awarded double their positional score if positive, or half if negative (rewarding them for exceeding expectations).

If a player comes BELOW

their expected position, they get half points or their negative score is doubled

( thus receiving a penalty for not being 'on form' )

If a player finished in their expected position, they keep their 'position score' unmodified

The result is then added to your overall rating on CMN.
