Never forgotten!
She was such a brilliant agility dog in her prime and won many, many ribbons.
Old Dog Dreaming .... by Bret Rayne (May 97)
Again, she's dreaming
Her thick, fluffy coat ... far from gleaming
A strong tribute to a youth long gone.
How far gone is that youth?
As she runs through the haze of her wizened imagination,
Her off coloured whites, twitching, increasingly violent
Any dream a nightmare through the mist of decrepit movement.
How far off reality is her world,
Old dog.
Slower now - ceasingly so,
the thick black coat gently rippling ... with laboured breath
Perhaps another parallel with her quiet reality
A reality of youth where wind and water present no difficulties
An old mind has bridged the gap.
She wakes - our eyes meet; sympathetically deep.
Her black fur extends through the sea of blue.
Simply another parallel again mirroring
the environment which she now drifts back into.
Back into uncertainty - her own reality; hauntingly easy.
What's in her dream?
Old dog
Till we meet again ... at the rainbow bridge!
