Army No and Rank, 927961.  W/Bombadier
Name George Louis BAILEY

On 1 Nov '44  Bdr. Bailey's AP was deployed at 162464 and was subjected to concentrated mortar fire. He decided to move his party to a flank but the whole area was under observation and as soon as he re-established the new position came under mortar and shell fire which continued intermittently for two hours. One near miss caused th AP slit-trench to fall in on top of the observeron duty. Bdr Bailey extricated him while still under fire and continued sending information by radio comn and having sent the other members of his party to shelter in a nearby cellar remained in action by himself. Through his courage and disregard of his own safety Bdr Bailey was directly responsible for the location of seven hostile batteries on this occasion.
