EXERCISE "MOREBINGE"

7th Survey Regt. R.A. Composite Battery

MOVEMENT AND EXERCISE INSTRUCTION NO 1.

  1. GENERAL                                                                          Ref Maps O.S. 1/4" to 1 mile
                                                                                                Sheets 11 and 12.                
    1 Tp. F.S. Bty.,1 Tp. S.R. Bty.,1 Tp Svy. Bty.& B.H.Q composed as
    below will proceed as a Composite Bty. to take part in the Exercise
    "Morebinge" in 12 Corps Area from 5th - 8th August.

    MOVEMENT
    "A" Troop F.S. Bty. will proceed to bivouac area MOTE PARK - nr MAIDSTONE
    from Dover base on 4th Aug by Troop route.
    "C" Troop S.R. Bty. and X Troop Svy Bty. will proceed to bivouac area to
    arrive before 2000 hrs.on 3rd August.
    "C" and "X" Tps, will leave TROWBRIDGE at 0800 hrs. on 2nd Aug. Move to
    Staging Camp at Pangbourne for night 2nd/3rd. Arrive MOTE PARK approximately
    1400 hrs. 3rd.

  4. MOVEMENT ORDERS
    Movement Table. See Appendix "A".
    All Drivers and D.Rs. will be issued with route cards and 1/4" map sheets
    11 and 12.
    Heading and rear vehicles in convoy will carry distinguishing flags and
    lamps.
    On conclusion of Exercise troops will move into the area LINGFIELD nr
    E. GRINSTEAD under arrangements 12 Corps.

  5. INTERCOMMUNICATION.
    H.Q., R.A. 12 Corps.    Location TUNBRIDGE WELLS.
                            Tel.      Tunbridge Wells 3450.
    On arrival in bivouac area Advance Party D.R.will be sent to H.Q., R.A. 12
    Corps. He will remain there as a link between H.Q., R.A. and the composite
    Bty. until the allotment of the Composite Bty. is known.
    Tel. communication with H.Q., R.A. 12 Corps will be established in the
    bivouac area through telephone MAIDSTONE 4561 (telephone of R.E. unit
    stationed in MOTE PARK.).

    Frequencies during Exercise.
    No 11. High Power        6390
          Call Sign,          E.F.
    No 18. Allotted frequency 8000.
           Note : 7900 to 8200 may be used.

    Orders and Messages.
    All orders and messages in connection with the exercise will start and
    finish with the word "MOREBINGE".   If it is necessary to cancel a
    message "MOREBINGE NEGATIVE" will be sent.  The exercise will be
    concluded by sending "MOREBINGE CONCLUDED".

  6. Administration.
    a) P.O.L.  All vehicles will leave TROWBRIDGE with full tanks.
        vehicles will draw petrol from staging Camp. Pangbourne.
        For drawing of petrol after arrival in Exercise Area, see Para.
        4, 12 Corps Adm. Instr. No 1 dated 27.7.41  (Circulated to Btys).
    b) Supplies.
        For move to Bivouac area.
          Unexpired portion for Sat 2nd August and rations for 3rd and break-
          fast on 4th will be carried in the ration lorry.
        For Exercise
          Rations will be drawn from Corps Supply Depot. Detailed instructions
          will be issued latter.  See Adn. Instr. No 1 Para 2(a).
          Two days reserve rations will be carried.
    c) Ammunition.
          Full Echelons will be drawn from Q.M. before leaving TROWBRIDGE.
          No issue to individuals.
          See 12 Corps Exercise Instructions No 1 para.  9.
    d) For other administrative Instructions see Adm. Instr. No 1.

  7. P. of W.
         See Adm. Instr. No. 1. para.  11.
         It will be impressed on all ranks that if captured during the exercise
         the ONLY information to be given will be
                        NUMBER,   RANK.  AND NAME.

  8. Notes
      1. O.C. Svy. Bty., one subaltern officer from Svy Bty. and one officer
          from the 1st Ind. S.R. Bty. will be attached to Composite Bty., H.Q.
          during the exercise.
      2. 1" and 1/25000 maps of the exercise area will be issued latter.
      3. 3 No 11 sets will be given to C.B.O by H.Q., R.A. Corp. One will
          be allotted to F.S.Troop, one to S.R. Troop and one will be kept
          by C.B.O.
    4. All "Tents, shelters" will be taken on exercise.
