ONE-DAY TOURNAMENT, SUNDAY 4 MARCH
The change of venue to Beaminster seemed to meet with the
approval of the players and a full day’s play ended with the finals of the
Open Singles, won by Steve Joel, and the victors in the final of the Doubles
were Andy Mitchell and Richard Trim. The
Ladies Singles and Junior Doubles were won by Caroline Berkley and Calum Loveday,

The instigation of new
Open Singles and Open Doubles events for the juniors resulted in a good number
of entries and it was a pleasure to see so many new faces.
The participants enjoyed themselves and it gave us an opportunity to meet
the future stars of the Yeovil League! Congratulations
to the winners and all the competitors on the good spirit and sportsmanship all
displayed; and congratulations also to Gillian Thorne and her team of helpers
who all contributed to an enjoyable and successful tournament.
INDIVIDUAL MEMBERSHIP TO THE E.T.T.A. 2012/13
Thank you all for your co-operation last year in allowing
us to pay your membership fees to the E.T.T.A. en bloc. Organisationally it is
the most efficient way for us, as a league, to deal with this matter. Our
treasurer has spoken to the E.T.T.A re this coming season and they are very
happy for us to do the same again, so please IGNORE ALL EMAILS FROM THE E.T.T.A.
REGARDING INDIVIDUAL REGISTRATION unless you are paying for a licence fee. THE
YEOVIL LEAGUE WILL PAY YOUR INDIVIDUAL MEMBERSHIP 2012/13 EN BLOC. Please
make sure all your team members are aware of this fact.
Arrangements are being made for the end of the season.
The Presentation Evening will take place at Barrington Village
Hall on Thursday 14 June. As usual,
the evening will start with the Pot Luck Doubles at 7.0 pm sharp. A new trophy
will be presented in honour of Jim Sadler, who contributed so much to the Yeovil
League over the past sixty years. This will be followed by the presentation of
all the season’s trophies and a buffet. ALL
WELCOME.
Please return all trophies as soon as possible to Shirley
Dark, so that they can be engraved in time for the presentations.
The ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING will take place at
Westland
in the table tennis room on Wednesday 18 July.
Please note that any club or team wishing to submit any
amendments to the existing Rules (see page 25 of the League Handbook, Rule 12
and Rule 9(a)), or to submit a new Rule, should make sure that the Secretary
receives 60 days’ notice of the wording of the proposed Resolution to go on
the agenda, so that everyone has an opportunity to consider the matter before
the meeting.
The following members of the present committee will not be standing for
re-election: Tim Farr, our very hard-working and efficient Match Secretary; Bob
Pearson, Coaching Co-ordinator; and Margaret Pearson, Secretary.
So please can everyone consider if they would like to help out in any of
these roles and contact the Chairman, Shirley Dark.
