Canine Bowen Technique
(The Bowen Technique for Dogs)
The Canine Bowen Technique is a ‘light-touch’ therapy offering dogs a gentle, non-invasive and effective hands-on technique that promotes healing, pain-relief and body/energy rebalancing.
It is based on the principles of a successful human modality - the Bowen Technique - which was developed by Tom Bowen, in Australia in the 1950’s, and brought to the UK in the early 1990’s.
Its adaptation in the UK for use on dogs was started in 2001 by Bowen therapists Sally and Ron Askew, who started on their own dogs, and then, with the cooperation and support of their local vets, integrated their findings into their canine behavioural and rehabilitation work with great success.
In 2003, following persistent prompting, they designed a professional program of training, with an holistic approach, for people wishing to become properly skilled Canine Bowen Technique therapists, and founded the European Guild of Canine Bowen Therapists (EGCBT) to bring this exciting modality both to the UK and to mainland Europe.
The EGCBT diploma course in Canine Bowen Technique is currently the only course in Bowen for dogs recognised by the Bowen Therapists’ European Register (BTER), and it is also recommended by the European College of Bowen Studies (ECBS), the leading school of human Bowen training in Europe.
