Twinning visit to Darmstadt

What people said about the visit:

Maria Sanchez Maria Sanchez

"Twinning is a great experience because it allows you to get to know a country in a
different way. It's not the same when you go there as a tourist. It's good
for everybody from young to old (even babies are welcome). I encourage
young people to join as as it's great fun.

The thing I most liked was sharing my time with other people from other
countries and people from England who work very close to you and you have
never met. Everybody is extremely open.

Also it gave me the opportunity to visit different places which would be quite
difficult to find by myself."

Suzanne Speight

"The first thing that struck me was the camaraderie and relaxed attitude of
all the fellow twinners and the German hosts.  Everyone was really
friendly and, despite my lack of German, language was no problem.  Our
first host, Susanne, lived in what seemed to be a palace in Weisbaden.
She made my son Ben (12) and I very welcome an we soon adapted to our
luxurious surroundings.  Ben even went to school with her son Christoph
one day - not his expected holiday activity  but an experience that I am
sure he will appreciate more as he gets older!   We also went bowling with
Susanne and some of her friends and met our second hostess - Kerstin.
Interestingly Kerstin spoke as much English as I spoke German so
dictionaries were essential and Ben and her daughter Gabbi become chief
translators.  Not that we needed them for shopping in Darmstadt (which has
some excellent department stores).  Kerstin also gave us a wonderful tour
of Darmstadt and Mainz on Sunday before we left.  It was a trip that Ben
and I enjoyed very much and we will definitely be twinning again!"
