Holiday Report - La Toussuire Sat 9th - Sat 16th Jan 1999
This was an excellent week, in which we had about 1m of fresh snow! It's not often you
are able to ski in deep powder on-piste. The organisation by Ron Gager was excellent - he
does a better job than many professional tour operators. The en-suite accommodation and
food at "Le Dahu" was good 2 star stuff. The hotel offered doorstep skiing and
the hire equipment was in good nick.

The skiing was adequate, rather than extensive. Experienced skiers would be
disappointed and would be better off at Les Trois Vallees. Beginners and intermediates are
well catered for, with Ski School in Eengleesh.

Ski class, including John Read & daughter Vicky (1st & 3rd
from left) & myself, 4th
There was quite a mix of participants. There were six current BT employees, many
retirees with their families and friends as well as some of Ron Gager's cycling (his other
passion) pals. Here are the names of the BT people I can remember:
Andy Meldrum (kamikazi skier who won a slalom contest)
Vicky Read
George Katsarelis
Denise Bissell (& 2 friends Sue ? & Welsh lass)

Apres ski was a bit of a blur...
The only real down side to the holiday was the food offered to the 4 vegetarians. The
French seem to think a vegetarian diet comprises eggs, omelettes with the occasional fish
dish. After being offered a total of nearly 40 eggs each over the week, some of our veggie
friends were relieved to get on the Air 2000 Fokker which took us home!
I'll post some piccies here when I get them developed & get the time...
I hope that gives you a flavour of the holiday.
Mark
