Vojtech Safarik (bass)

Vojtech SafarikVojtech was born in the Czech Republicwhere he began his vocal studies at the Prague State Conservatory with Roman Janál where he graduated in 2005. He is currently studying with Ryland Davies at the Benjamin Britten International Opera School, Royal College of Music London.

Vojtech has participated in several masterclasses (including at the Sommerakademie Universität Mozarteum Salzburg with Rudolf Knoll, and at the RCM with Sir Thomas Allen, Roger Vignoles, Sarah Walker and Gerald Finley) and has taken part in several theatre performances, including Masetto in Mozart's Don Giovanni and in Novák's Vrchní in Lucerna. In 2005 he was selected to join the International Opera Studio at the Komische Oper, Berlin where he performed the role of Leporello in Mozart's Don Giovanni with conductor Kirill Petrenko.

Vojtech's recent engagements include Monteverdi's Ottone in L'incoronazione di Poppea , a concert version of Purcell's The Fairy Queen with Sir Roger Norrington in Salzburg, Mozart's Mass in C minor with Sir Charles Mackerras at the RCM, the role of Father in Mozart's The Jewel Box for the Bampton Classical Opera and Bach's St. John Passion with the London Mozart Players.

Vojtech is the winner of the Anglo-Czechoslovak Trust competition in London 2003 and holder of the Madeline Finden Memorial Trust Award 2005. He is the RCM Scholar supported by the Derek Butler Trust and is also supported by the Josephine Baker Trust.
