When dj’s and producers discovered they could use two turntables or a reel-to-reel
tape machine to extend and manipulate a 7-inch mix, a new musical landscape was
discovered. Whether it was the 1950’s / 60’s experimentalists, bronx hip-hop dj’s or
the disco pioneer producers of the 70’s. The only limitation to their imagination
was the burgeoning technology, cost, time, and practicality. Now with the advent
of digital technology, the only limitation is the imagination, the possibilities are
endless, but this now puts a greater importance on the choice of the track to re-edit.
