Leftfield & Chill Reviews by Foundsounds

(4 out of 4 stars)

Having already had their mischievous way with Kraftwerk, George McCrae and Serge Gainsbourg, the mystery duo return with another on-point edit. This time around it’s Smokey Robinson and the Miracles’ horn-driven, anthemic monster ‘Want Me’ that’s providing the inspiration, and inspired it is. Pure, unadulterated Motown soul. Forget the superlatives, it’s as simple and easy as that.

Soundin Off Reviews by Dom Servini

Scissors at the ready as Smokey & the Miracles find themselves the latest in line for a short back and sides from the Mischief Brew boys. It’s a cut’n’paste fest with loops galore, before Smokey’s vocal comes in for the final blow dry...drop this one and you’ll find there’s a whole lot of love on the floor!

The current flood of bootlegs and re-edits continues with this latest offering from Mischief Brew, and while they are ten-a-penny at the moment, with the summer fading fast, the uplifting groove and understated horns fit in perfectly with the season. To be fair this basically just an extended version of ‘Smokey Robinson and The Miracles' original 1968 Philly soul original, but where it isn’t flash or particularly deep, it isn’t abrasive and keeps the feeling of the Smokey’s intact over a modern day time frame and structure.
