Leftfield Reviews by Found Sounds
(4 out of 5 stars)
Adding to a re-edit catalogue that, so far has included
kraut electronica, freak-beat, classic r&b and disco, it’s
the turn of the less-explored genre of country folk to get the
splicers’ touch from Mischief Brew. Extracted from Cale’s
1976 LP ‘Troubadour’, it’s a space-y, chugging
groove that makes use of fuzzbox FX and some sonic tom-foolery
to relay this ode to horizontal dancing in true late-night fashion.
A gem unearthed from the rough.

Widely regarded as kings of the re-edit, having reworked
obscurites from Serge Gainsbourg, Smokey Robinson and Kraftwerk,
mischievous sample manipulators Mischief Brew are back. Her they
take a crack at the bandana-sporting, leathery-voiced swamp funk
of J J Cale’s ‘Ride Me High’. Not a bad record
in the first place, but this new brew picks up the pace, taking
it into whole new dancefloor territory.
