Round THREE of the 1999 Stock Car National Series And Second open Meeting
For The Reliant Robins

Held at The Cambridge Oval Racing Club Sunday 20th June 1999

Reliant Line Up

Although the number of stockcars at this meeting was smaller than last year, the reliants in only their second open
saved the day with their best turn out so far. Once again R.D.C. promotions who organise the full size racing at
Mildenhall and Swindon Stadiums, were on board providing some excellent trophies for the meeting.
In the stockcars, there were no real surprises in qualifying with home drivers Pinky and Russell Cooper in the
final together with other Urmston, Biddulph and Rugby regulars. The reliants had some of the most travelled
drivers with representatives from Cambridge, Newmarket, Basildon, Urmston, Ipswich and Bristol - The racing
proving to be great fun which is what the formulas all about - The first eight qualified for the A final, there was
also a B and C final held. These were won by Alan Crossland from Urmston and Kieran Briddock from Basildon,
respectfully.

Stock Car Line Up

The A final was a very close affair between the top three from last year with each of the drivers
having their chance to be in the lead, it usually being lost in collisions with backmarkers - The race eventually
won by Martin "Pinky" Cooper, with Mark Chinnery second and Russell Cooper third - In the stockcars a
non-qualifiers race was held for those not in the consolation or final, this being won by local white top driver
Keith Harper "Nobby". On to the final, which had been re-started, from the re-start it was Stephen Farmer from Pinky,
the pair having passed front starters Russell Cooper and Gary McMullen- The race soon settled down with
Darren Wood moving into the top four- Pinky moved into the lead the rest of the drivers having their own battles
further down the field at 48 laps- Disaster struck Pinky as his car suddenly went out of control- The problem
later traced to a broken crystal- soon after Russell took over the lead which he held to the end being followed
home by Gary McMullen and Darren Wood. At the end of the day, full size reliant world champion, Michael
Croxon was kind enough to hand out the trophies on behalf of R.D.C. promotions, a title he will defend on
July 25th 1999 at Mildenhall Stadium.
