Regarding Watford Central School. This school continued in its old building through the war years with Joe Lilliman as headmaster.
A new brick replacement building was started in 1939 but by the outbreak of war it had only reached about bricks high and was not completed until the war was over. This was in Aldenham Road.
On completion the Central School pupils and most of the staff moved into the new building and it became Bushey Grammar School with a new head master Mr O'Connor.
A new prefabricated building on the other side of Aldenham Road was built to replace Alexandra Secondary Modern School, it had an underpass so that pupils did not have to cross the busy road.
The two schools later combined and became Queens' Comprehensive School.
