Advertisers Benefiting from Big Brother - The Web site: Updated Background: On the 19th January 2007 Jade Goody was set for eviction from the Celebrity Big Brother house. At this time there was an international outcry against Channel 4 and the producers of Big Brother, Endemol. The show was not pulled from the air, however. Here are the advertisers that we observed on the Big Brother web site and during the shameful show’s extremely popular eviction show: The Big Brother Web site - www.channel4.com/bigbrother At this time (19th January 2007) it should be noted that the following sponsors are endorsing this racism by allowing their commercials to be seen on the Big Brother web site www.thomson.co.uk www.unicef.org.uk Updated 22nd January 2007: Note that we contacted Unicef and they were shocked to learn that their advertising banner was appearing on the web site. Within minutes of our phone call it had been removed... www.mfi.co.uk www.totaljobs.com www.sky.com We contacted Sky and they called back to say they were investigating this - they also were unaware that their link was appearing on the web site. Sky’s link remained on the web site until more than a day later. I have not seen it there again since. www.poferries.com www.footprintfinance.co.uk www.wspa.org.uk Updated 22nd January 2007: As this is a charitable organization I tried really hard to contact them. It was hard going because nobody was available to speak to me and I kept getting put through to voicemails. Eventually I did get in touch with someone and they promised to call me back on Monday to discuss the matter. The phone call did not come and WSPA are still advertising on the web site www.airfrance.co.uk http://my.ultralase-eye-surgery.co.uk www.monster.co.uk www.doorone.co.uk www.hotels.com www.expedia.co.uk www.thesun.co.uk We contacted the sun’s PR people and were told that the sun would not pull the ad even though “we are aware that it gives a mixed message... we are against racism and bullying in any form...”.
