Reading's Under-17 and Under-19 sides made the long trip up to wealthy Premiership side Blackburn Rovers and saw how the other half lives. The facilities at the Blackburn Academy have to be seen to be believed. Both sides played on pitches that would not have been out of place at the Crucible.
The Under-17s, fielding a weakened side because of claims by the Under-19s, put up a spirited display that belied the 7-0 scoreline, with battling performances from Adam Theo, Gary Middleton and Jamie Young. Reading fielded six players under the age of 16, three of whom were 14 years old.
