Match report:

By a guest reporter:

Reading's Under-17 and Under-19 sides made the long trip up to wealthy Premiership side Blackburn Rovers and saw how the other half lives. The facilities at the Blackburn Academy have to be seen to be believed. Both sides played on pitches that would not have been out of place at the Crucible.

Once again Kevin Dillon's Under-19s embarrassed a Premiership side with a performance of no little class and oodles of grit. Blackburn fielded a team which contained ten of their side which played in the FA Youth Cup Final last season.

The home side took the lead on 27 minutes with a header, but then Jason Awbery equalised with a free kick to match any that David Beckham has taken, a peach into the top right hand corner. Keeper Cox made a crucial save from a one-on-one five minutes before half-time.

After half time the Royals were given a boost when, following a terrible tackle on Awbery, Walters was sent off. For the next 35 minutes Reading passed the ball as if they were the Premiership side but could not extend their lead. On 80 minutes, Joey Alcott, disputing a decision more than he should, was also sent off. This inspired Blackburn who put Reading under heavy pressure but Reading stood firm. 1-1 the final score, and another excellent result against Premiership opposition for Kevin Dillon's team.

Match notes:

Justin Wilson is.a left-back trialist previously at Fulham who has now played for both the reserves and the Under-19s. The subsititute Chris Davies is a new scholar from Barnet.
