Match report:
By a guest reporter:
Reading started the game resolutely competing, and to be fair had the lion's share of possession, but could not deliver the final ball. In fact, in the first half Simon Cox in goal had only one moment of action taking a deep cross - nothing could have prepared us for what was to come
At half-time it was 0-0, but within minutes of the restart Reading were behind. A ball whipped in from 12 yards out was met by a powerful header with no chance for the keeper. Five minutes later and it was two - ball down the line, low cross stepped over, simple finish. To Reading's credit they still competed but against the run of play Spurs scored their third when a trip in the box led to a penalty, with the keeper sent the wrong way.
From this point, Spurs played as they wished and Reading's heads went down. The fourth, from a ball down the middle, opened the floodgates further. Cox made two good saves but the fifth goal came from a near post cross. Reading were now all over the place and Spurs could have scored ten. The sixth was from another ball down the middle leading to a low shot, whilst the seventh had an element of fortune - the keeper at full stretch diverted a stinging low drive but the ball bounced off another forward through a Reading player's legs to a Spurs player who tapped home.
With the final whistle thankfully blown, the score was 0-7.
