These games formed part of the Graham Taylor International Festival of Football, held annually at Parmiter's School in Watford. The Reading Under-9 team for the 2002/03 season took part in the section of the tournament described as "Pro Youth Under-9".
There were sixteen teams, split into four groups of four for games in the morning. Matches were played over ten minutes each way, and were "small-sided" although I don't know how many players per side there are. Reading were in Group A. The final group table was as follows:
| P | W | D | L | F | A | GD | Pts | |
| Millwall | 3 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 2 | 1 | +1 | 4 |
| Reading | 3 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 3 | 3 | 0 | 4 |
| Arsenal | 3 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 2 | -1 | 4 |
| Charlton Athletic | 3 | 0 | 3 | 0 | 2 | 2 | 0 | 3 |
In the afternoon, Reading played in a second stage against the three second-placed teams from the other three groups.
| P | W | D | L | F | A | GD | Pts | |
| Everton | 3 | 2 | 1 | 0 | 2 | 0 | +2 | 7 |
| Reading | 3 | 2 | 0 | 1 | 4 | 2 | +2 | 6 |
| Peterborough United | 3 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 2 | 2 | 0 | 4 |
| Norwich City | 3 | 0 | 0 | 3 | 0 | 4 | -4 | 0 |
This means that in some sense, Reading came sixth of the sixteen teams.
