The FA Premier Academy League for Under-19s consisted of four groups, each with ten teams. We were in Group D with Bristol City, Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Fulham, Queens Park Rangers, Southampton, Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United and Wimbledon. We should have played those nine teams twice each (home and away) plus ten matches against teams from other groups, making 28 games in all. The winners of each group went into semi-final play-offs at the end of the season.

Although Reading do not run an Under-18 side as such, the FA Youth Cup is for Under-18s. The format is roughly the same as for the FA Cup, so Premiership and Division 1 clubs are exempt to the 3rd round, Division 2 and 3 clubs (including Reading, of course) are exempt to the 1st round, and there are qualifying rounds for non-league clubs. The only exception is that Macclesfield Town did not enter and so Hullbridge Sports (the non-league club with the best record) were exempt to the 1st round.

The FA Premier Academy League for Under-17s consisted of four groups, each with eight teams. We were in Group D with Arsenal, Bristol City, Crystal Palace, Fulham, Southampton, West Ham United and Wimbledon. We should have played those seven teams twice each (home and away) plus ten matches against teams from other groups, making 24 games in all.
There was a play-off series for all teams across all four groups at the end of the season. This consisted of three play-off games before teams qualified for quarter-finals, semi-finals and a final.

The home League games against Wimbledon and Fulham were not played as the weather foiled the last attempts to get them in before the original 31st March end of the League season and even the subsequent extension.
Although Reading obviously want to win every match that we play, note that at this age group the performance is far more important. Also either team might include players from a younger age group, or on trial, so that the results should not be given great importance.
