The Under-12s and older age groups play 11-a-side; younger age groups play 8-a-side (although the Under-11s sometimes play 9-a-side in preparation for their next season as Under-12s). In addition to the coaches shown below, Stephen Smith coaches the Academy goalkeepers.
Coach - Kevin Dillon
To be eligible players must have been born after 31/8/1981
The Under-19 FA Premier Academy League team will include players from younger age groups as well (particularly from the Under-18s as there is no Under-18 league).

Note that some of these players may be from younger age groups than Under-19.
Stuart Gosby's picture disappeared from the scholars shown in the Evening Post from 20/2/2001 onwards.
Normally, these scholars will play in the Under-19 team. However the FA Youth Cup is for under-18s (that is, players born after 31/8/1982).

On 5/5/2001, Andre Fashanu was presented to the Madejski Stadium crowd and it was announced that he had been offered a three-year scholarship. However, at the beginning of the 2001/02 season, it was stated that he was already in the second year of his contract, and it was implied that he was an age group above the four other players presented to the crowd on the same day.

On 15/3/2001, Reading announced that Jamie Young had been offered a three-year scholarship contract. However, he was not presented to the crowd or included in the programme on the dates above, which suggests that he had not accepted it by May 2001.
