Football Quiz - Answers

Q: In the history of the European Cup and Champions League, which cities have had two different clubs reach the semi-finals (not necessarily in the same year). The answer includes those cities where one or both clubs reached only the semi-final group stage in the years when the Champions League had one of those. Clue: There are eleven.
A: Belgrade, Bucharest, Budapest, Dundee, Glasgow, London, Madrid, Milan, Moscow, Prague and Vienna

Milan is the only city to have had two clubs who are winners of the European Cup. In addition, Madrid and Belgrade have managed to have two finalists. Moscow and Prague are only included by virtue of clubs reaching the semi-final group stage rather than playing in genuine semi-finals.

Thanks to A Mills for pointing out that I had wrongly omitted Budapest.

In 2003 I predicted that London or Oporto would be the eleventh city in the list. Tottenham Hotspur and Porto had already managed it, whilst Arsenal and Boavista were in with a shout. Subsequently, spending a lot of money put Chelsea in the picture and they became the second London club to reach the semis. London will also now be the clear favourite to be the first city to have three clubs reach a semi-final.

Sometimes the question is which two British cities have accomplished this feat. However, as this is one of the very rare occasions indeed where Scottish clubs have actually managed to achieve something decent, there was no way that this website was going to ask that question directly. And in 2004 it became out-of-date anyway.
