Kingsley Royal - Links
This section contains links relating to Kingsley Royal
himself, or to other mascots.
Please note that many of the links below are to the official
sites of Nationwide League clubs. In those cases, the links to
the mascot page may well not work at the moment due to the clubs
all changing their official sites. I will update this page once
all these new official sites have settled down (which will
probably be October!).
- The One and Only Kingsley - Kingsley
Royal's section of the official Reading
Football Club website. We think that this portion of the
official site should be bigger and more prominent!
- Rachel Spratt's home page - features a great photo
of Rachel with Kingsley.
- Mascot Grand National - this website contains everything you could
possibly want to know about the Mascot Grand National
held annually at Huntingdon Racecourse, but also includes
much more information about mascots in general
- Mascot Derby - a page covering the Mascot Derby held at
Chepstow Racecourse on 7th July 2001 (and not on the
April date that the page states!)
- Mascot Mondial - this part of the official Shrewbury Town
website is called "The Website of the Mascots"
and is devoted to information on all mascots. The
centrepiece of this site is the Battle of the Mascots, a
fun day held at Shrewsbury on 1st April, 2001.
- AwayFansGuide mascot page - this is just a list of
club mascots split by (out-of-date) division. They don't
have Kingsley Royal's full name up, and if they don't
correct it this link will disappear (so there!).
- Marvin the Moose - page from the official Cambridge United site
about their mascot and his history
- "King
of the Jungle" - a highly inaccurate title (we all know that
Kingsley Royal is the true king of the jungle), but this
website is a tribute to the York City mascot, Yorkie the
Lion. Yorkie is described as "the mane man"!
- Hartlepool United Kid's Page - this is part of the
official Hartlepool United official site, and includes a
profile and diary of their mascot, H'Angus the Monkey (grammar
as per the original, or perhaps Hartlepool only have one
kid who is a fan....)
- Once a Wolves Wolf - this is Steve Bird's website. Never heard of
him? Well, he used to be the Wolverhampton Wanderers
mascot Wolfie. (Unlike Reading, some poorer clubs have to
make do with people dressed up in costumes for their
mascots rather than employing real animals.) In
particular, this includes his version of the infamous
incident with City Cat and the Three Little Pigs at
Ashton Gate during half-time of the Bristol City against
Wolves match a few years ago.
- Wolfie 'n' Wendy, Wolves Mascots - this is a page from an
unofficial Wolverhampton Wanderers site, with a few
pictures and an eight-second video of the "Three
Little Pigs" incident at Ashton Gate!!!!
- Filbert's bit - this is the section of the official Leicester
City site devoted to mascots Filbert Fox, Vicki Vixen and
Cousin Dennis.
- Bloomfield Bear's Bits and Bobs - a section of the
official Blackpool site
- Boomer's Factfile - a page about the Port Vale mascot, Boomer
- Roary
the Tiger -
some pictures (and nothing else) of the Hull City mascot
- The Owls Mascots - a page from the Sheffield Wednesday official
site about their mascots Bazz Owl, Ollie Owl and Ozzie
Owl
- The Secret Life of City Cat - a page about the
Bristol City mascot, or "that idiot in a cat costume"
as they call him
- Bizarre Mascot Names - an article from the magazine
Extraordinary World about how certain mascots got their
names. Does not feature Kingsley Royal. Shame on them!
I think there are many more links to come, as
more and more clubs add website pages for their mascots. Kingsley
Royal as usual was the pioneer, and will add more links over the
coming months.
And some stories that have so far eluded me -
I'm still looking for the details of the minor league US baseball
game where the manager returned in the mascot's costume after
being ejected from the game. There was also a major league
baseball game where a disgruntled Baltimore Orioles fan pushed
their mascot off the dugout roof. The mascot is supposed to be a
bird, but instead of flying he plummeted to the ground and broke
an ankle!
