Lauren
Wells, the goalkeeper of Reading's Under-16 girls team, made her
England debut at Yeading this morning. Lauren played the last
half-hour in the England Under-17 teams 3-1 win over Belgium.
The
draw for the fourth round of the League Cup has taken place and
Reading will play at home to Chelsea. The game will be on
Wednesday, 3rd December.
Adie
Williams has been named in the Wales squad for their Euro 2004
play-off games against Russia next month.
Reading
progress to the last 16 of the League Cup after a 1-0 victory at
home to Huddersfield Town. Click here

tomorrow.
Today's
Division 1 results mean that Reading drop one place to ninth in
the table.
The
Under-19 side continued to win in the FA Premier Academy League,
this time with 1-0 away to Birmingham City, whilst the Under-17s
lost 2-1 at home to Tottenham Hotspur.
An
excellent performance away to Sheffield United gives Reading a 2-1
away victory and a climb to eighth place in the table. Ívar
Ingimarsson makes his debut - for match details, click here.
Reading
have signed Ívar Ingimarsson from Wolverhampton Wanderers. The
Icelandic international can play either at centre-back or in
midfield and can expect to be playing in the first team very soon
because Steve Brown is about to have a knee operation.
Ingimarsson has played for Steve Coppell at both Brentford and
Brighton & Hove Albion, but has not made any club appearances
this season. Reading have paid £100,000 down, with Wolves also
able to get a potential further £75,000 based on appearances and
25% of any future transfer profit.
For
reasons that I fail to understand, Reading have agreed that Joe
Gamble can stay on loan at Barnet for the rest of the season. The
conditions of such a long-term loan mean that we cannot recall
him at any time unless the regulations are different for loan to
clubs outside the Football League.
Tonight's
Division 1 game means that Reading drop to tenth in the table.
The
luck runs out as the most recent rubbish performance results in a
1-0 home defeat to Walsall. Click here for
match details. We stay ninth in the League table.
Nicky
Forster scored an injury-time winner as Reading beat the cheating
whingers from Preston North End 3-2. Click here for
match details. We are now ninth in the table.
In the
FA Premier Academy League, Reading's Under-19s beat Bristol City
4-3 at Bisham Abbey, whilst the Under-17s lost 2-0 away to
Arsenal.
The
reserve team suffered their first defeat of the season this
evening, losing 4-1 away to Brentford in a League Cup match.
Steve
Coppell gets his Reading managerial career off to a winning start
with a 2-1 victory at home to Gillingham. Click here for
match details. We climb to 10th in the table.
I
completely forgot to add the scores from Saturday's Academy games
- the Under-19s won 3-1 away to Leicester City to maintain their
top place in the table, whilst the Under-17s lost 5-4 away to
Bristol City.
Omar
Daley is currently in Jamaica for an Olympic qualifying match
against Cuba (kick-off 5pm local time today). Omar actually
played for Jamaica Under-23 in a warm-up game on Thursday against
local club side Arnett Gardens. The Under-23 team lost 3-2, with
Omar playing only the first half.
(Update added Monday, 13th October: Jamaica won the qualifying match 1-0 and so go through to the next round by 2-1 on aggregate. They will meet Surinanam or Guatemala in the next round, in mid-November. Omar started the match but was substituted after about 70 minutes when the score was 0-0.)
Adie
Williams was (as usual) an unused substitute as Wales lost 3-2 at
home to Serbia & Montenegro in a European Championships
qualifier. Wales will now go into a two-legged play-off (draw on
Monday morning), which might mean we lose Williams for the home
game against Millwall on Saturday, 15th November.
After
today's games in Division 1, Reading drop to 13th place in the
table.
Steve
Sidwell played about the first hour for England Under-21s as they
lost 1-0 in Turkey this evening, ending a disappointing and
unsuccessful qualifying campaign characterised chiefly by the
complete inability of manager David Platt to either select the
right players or get the ones he did choose to play as a team.
Sidwell will be too old for the next set of games, so his Under-21
career will end with just three competitive appearances and two
friendly matches.
The
new manager Steve Coppell took his first training session at
Sonning this morning.
Steve
Coppell is the new Reading manager, having signed a contract that
takes him up to the end of the 2004/05 season. He has said that
he is keeping the same backroom and playing staff, and will
assess what changes he needs to make to the squad in the coming
weeks. At a press conference, John Madejski said that Reading had
interviewed about ten people for the job.
The
reserve team conceded their first league goal of the season, but
kept the 100% record with a 2-1 win away to Wycombe Wanderers.
for match details - Darius Henderson (who scored both goals) and
Andre Boucaud both played after returning from loan spells.
Andre
Fashanu, who was on loan (or technically work experience) at
Farnbrough Town, suffered a broken leg last night and will be
unavailable for about six weeks. This means that he will return
to Reading, having scored three goals in his seven games in the
Conference.
Steve
Sidwell is in the England Under-21 squad for their trip to Turkey
on Friday, so Reading's game at Burnley next Saturday is now
certain to be postponed. Sidwell joins Adie Williams and Omar
Daley as Reading players unavailable due to international duty.
Two
more points thrown away against rubbish opponents, as Reading
draw 2-2 at home to Bradford City, in what is probably the only
game of Brian McDermott's Reading managerial career for the time
being. Click here
for match details. We drop to 12th in the League table.
In the
FA Premier Academy League, both our sides lost against Fulham,
the Under-19s by 3-2 at home and the Under-17s by 1-0 away.
At
last some concrete information about the managerial vacancy.
Reading have stated that they hope to make an announcement this
week, but it won't be today. Brighton & Hove Albion have
stated that their manager Steve Coppell has been interviewed by
us, although Coppell has said at a press conference that he will
still be in charge of Brighton on Saturday. Glen Hoddle's agent
has said that Hoddle has not spoken to us (which of course means
that he has done so).
Meanwhile, Kevin Dillon will be absent from Saturday's home game against Bradford City as he has to attend a funeral in the north-east, and so Brian McDermott will be caretaker caretaker manager.
