In 1999/2000 Bristol Rovers missed a place in the play-offs by one point. Much was made of the fact that Reading took all six points in our clashes with them, but what is even more funny is when you consider that the match at Bristol was originally due to have been played in November. Had that game gone ahead on the scheduled date, we would undoubtedly have lost. Instead, Bristol Rovers themselves called the game off to do some building work on a stand, and we took all three points in a classic smash-and-grab raid come the rearranged fixture in April.
Since then they've failed to gain promotion, sold Jason Roberts and of course Jamie Cureton (plus the obvious replacement Bobby Zamora), they failed for a long time to win a home game, their fans are fighting among themselves on the terraces (!), the manager left, and they got relegated to Division 3. I hope they think that getting the builders in was worth it.
Some Bristol Rovers information:
Record defeat - 0-12 against Luton
Last Reading victory - the last time we played them, 1-0 at home in January 2001
Nearest station to ground - Montpelier, although in practice it's usually easier to use Bristol Temple Meads
