Back in in the mid-1980s Reading's complete record against Bury read won 5, drawn 5, lost 18. Those games included a match where our entire team was put up for sale after the game, and another where our manager resigned at half-time. Since then, results between the two sides have been much more even, with a few Reading victories at Gigg Lane! We even had some good luck when that League Cup tie was rightly called off when Bury were winning 2-0 - that is something that the Bury fans have yet to forget, by the way.
Some Bury information:
Record defeat - 0-10 against Blackburn Rovers and West Ham
Last Reading victory - 4-1 at home in April 2001
Nearest station to ground - Bury, which is a Manchester Metrolink station (i.e. it has trams rather than trains)
Trivia - the Bury mascot is without doubt the worst in the League. It's called "Robbie the Bobby" and is intended to commemorate the fact that Sir Robert Peel, who founded the first police force, came from the town. Myself and Tony Ella, in a brainstorming session at half-time in the game in August 1997, came up with a much better idea - "Shaker the Undertaker" reflecting the name of the club, their nickname, and the fact that the home end is called the Cemetery End. Even better is that they could have used the same costume, because the original Robbie wore a black frock-coat. He's now changed to one in bright blue, though.
