Of course no-one ever said that the LDV Vans Trophy was a Mickey Mouse cup...... but in the second round in 2000/01 we had a trip to Conference side Hereford United. This did at least have the virtue of being more interesting than another game against Bournemouth.
Some information about Hereford United:
Record defeat - 0-7 against Middlesbrough (that's the record during their short Football League career)
Last Reading victory - 2-1 away in the LDV Vans Trophy in January 2001
Nearest station to ground - Hereford
Trivia - Hereford entered the Football League in 1972/73, and their first win was against Reading at Edgar Street. Later in the season they completed their first ever double by beating us at Elm Park as well.
If you want to try to find someone interested in the LDV Vans Trophy, there are plenty of different messageboards to choose from - in fact Hereford must have the greatest ratio of websites to fans of any team we have played, and nearly all of them have a messageboard of one sort or another:
