Surrounded by water is the city of York, although of course that was only in the 2000/01 season. An FA Cup 2nd round tie of that nature was a good test of which players are interested in getting stuck in, and as far as I'm concerned most of the Reading team failed that test. Just in case we weren't sure, they failed it again in 2001/02.
Some York City information:
Record defeat - 0-12 against Chester
Last Reading victory - the last time we played them at home in the League, 1-0 in November 1998
Nearest station to ground - York
Trivia - the first time I saw Reading play at York was in the 1985/86 season. Before the game the driver of the Reading team coach reversed into the wooden fence of the house across the road from Bootham Crescent. He then drove off to wherever the coach was to be parked and no-one seemed to care about the fence. At the game on 9th December 2000, I had a look at the fence, and it is still broken!!!! (Newsflash from 8th December 2001 - still broken.)
