Our Opposition - The Hate List

It always used to be said that Reading fans had long memories. Well, I'm not so sure that that is true any more, and so this page is to help us remember those who have wronged us in the past. Just to make things easy, the table shows the current whereabouts of the villain concerned, and the date when we might next expect to see him. The order of the table is in the order that we will come across them, with the nearest meeting at the top.

Some people say that we should forgive.
I say that we should never forget.
(Well, actually, I say that we should never forgive, either.)

Tommy Burns Totally shafted our club with a series of bizarre transfer dealings between 3/1998 and 8/1999 - as a club insider put it, "He set us back five years by establishing a wage structure we couldn't afford on players he couldn't motivate. The place just fell apart." Deceased   10
Geoff Vowden Pushed Reading's Terry Bell leading to an own goal that sent Reading to Division 4 for the first time ever. Sunday League in Kettering? ? 8

Note that to get into the list, it's not enough to have scored significant goals against us, or to have managed Oxford - these are those people who have cheated Reading out of something, whether on or off the pitch, and who deserve to feel our wrath for that reason.

And I would like to explain that the reason Jason McAteer is not on the list is because his actions against Reading were not those of a cheat or thug like the people listed above. It is true that he should have been sent off in the 1995 Division 1 play-off final, but that was the failure of the referee, not McAteer. All McAteer did was to mistime a tackle and play brilliantly afterwards. I may not like him, but this list is for sneaky cheating individuals rather than the likes of him.

Lest We Forget
