Match preview:
Reading are splitting the squad to play two friendlies on the same day. The squad heading for Aldershot is expected to be: Jamie Ashdown, Chris Casper, Ricky Allaway, Declan O'Hara, John Mackie, Nicky Shorey, Phil Parkinson, Keith Jones, Neil Smith, Joe Gamble, Andy Hughes, trialist Ben Thornley, James Harper, Nicky Forster and Nathan Tyson.
For many Reading fans, a trip to Aldershot will bring back memories of when they were our closest rivals - in fact, my own first Reading game was a 1-0 FA Cup victory over Aldershot in 1971.
After Aldershot were rightly kicked out of the Football League for being unable to fulfil their fixtures in the 1991/92 season, a new club Aldershot Town was formed. Their stated aim was to get back into the League, but they had to start in the equivalent of Ryman League Division 3. They have currently managed to overachieve by getting as far as the Ryman League Premier Division, and the journey back down to their true level is no doubt not far off.
