Match notes:
This was the fourth match of a five-game Italian tour.
Before the game, the Pro Vercelli captain presented
Jack Smith with the Italian colours. In return Smith gave him a
Union Jack and the Reading Borough arms.
Pro Vercelli were formed in 1892 in the town of
Vercelli. The club still exists and plays in Girone A of Serie C2.
Pro Vercelli had been unbeaten for the previous 18
months, and were the current Italian champions. They had in fact
won five of the previous six titles, and were runners-up in the
other season when because of a dispute they fielded their youth
team in the final against Napoli.
