Match notes:

Compared to the Brighton & Hove Albion game, Ricky Newman replaced Kevin Watson in midfield, with Watson taking Newman's place on the bench. Also, Nathan Tyson replaced John Mackie on the bench.

Reading's run of consecutive victories ended at six, but the clean sheet means that we now have seven on the trot, whilst Marcus Hahnemann now has gone 698 minutes without conceding a goal.

This was the last game of Matthew Upson's loan spell. The record in the League games he has played (including a late substitute appearance away to Rotherham United) is:
P14 W9 D3 L2 F15 A5 Pts 36
Of the five goals conceded, two came in the first five minutes of his first start for Reading, whilst one was the wicked deflection that handed Stoke City an equaliser.

The crowd of 23,562 was a ground record, beating the 22,151 that saw the 2-2 draw with Peterborough United at the end of last season. It was Reading's highest home crowd since 8/11/1978 (24,046 for a draw at home to Southampton in the League Cup) and the highest home League crowd since 15/4/1960 (23,692 for a 2-0 victory over Southampton), both those last two games obviously taking place at Elm Park.
