Match notes:

Compared to the Gillingham game, John Mackie replaced the injured Steve Brown in the starting line-up, with Adie Williams switching to the left side of central defence. Bas Savage and Nathan Tyson were on the bench instead of Mackie and the injured Darius Henderson.

Nicky Shorey played his 100th game for Reading.

When Savage came on as a substitute it was only his second appearance for the club, and meant that he lost his record as the player with the shortest ever Reading career (previously he had played for three minutes).
