Compared to the Wigan Athletic home game, Ricky Newman replaced the injured Adie Williams at centre-back. Steve Sidwell returned to the starting line-up in place of the injured Scott Murray with Andy Hughes switching to a wide midfield position. John Mackie filled the gap left on the bench by Newman, whilst Jamie Young replaced Jamie Ashdown as goalkeeper substitute.
Andy Hughes had a penalty saved after 8 minutes.
Darius Henderson's appearance as a substitute was his first of the season for Reading, although he has previously played for Brighton & Hove Albion on loan.
