Report from The Scribe:
Reading played in a 4-4-2 formation, with Stuart Gray playing on the left side of midfield but in an attacking role. The game was not particularly sparkling and was affected by the conditions. In the first half, neither side coped with the strong wind and it also rained during the game.
Perhaps because of the conditions the first half was totally boring, with not a lot of chances. Early in the second half, things changed. Cambridge took the lead, their forward running clear towards the goal after Adrian Williams had slipped. Scott Howie had no chance with the shot.
About 15 minutes later, Reading equalised through Stuart Gray. He took the ball at the edge of the box and fired into the net. In the remainder of the game, Reading were well on top but unable to get the final ball correct and consequently did not create openings. Therefore the game ended in a draw.
Keith Jones started the match quite tentatively, but got much more involved as it progressed. Adie Williams on the other hand played at something like half-pace. He also stayed back for set-pieces, on the instructions of the bench.
Reading's most active player was Nathan Tyson although he did miss several chances, including a one-on-one with the Cambridge keeper. He was also offside quite often, particularly in the first half. The man of the match was probably Stuart Gray, being involved in many of the attacking moves as well as getting the goal. Overall, Reading were the more skilful side, but Cambridge appeared physically stronger.
