Report from The Scribe:
Both Alan Pardew and Martin Allen were at this game, although Kevin Dillon obviously took charge of the Reading team. Also in attendance were Mark McGhee (who spent a lot of time going around saying hello to people) and a lot of scouts, all busy with their mobile phones. In particular, there were representatives from Luton and Bournemouth.
The match was fairly even - Reading shaded the first half, although there was not much goalmouth action. After half an hour, Jimmy McIntyre went off, to be replaced by Nathan Tyson. It didn't seem that this was a tactical decision. Five minutes before half-time Reading took the lead. The move started down the right, and a cross was put over for Stuart Gray to run onto, coming in from the left flank. Gray shot from about 15 yards out and at a bit of an angle, and found the net.
Millwall had more of the game in the second half, but it was Reading who created more chances. Unfortunately we missed all of them. Nathan Tyson limped off with a knee injury with 15 minutes left.
I was particularly impressed with Darius Henderson in this match - he looked good leading the line, and also appeared faster than I had seen before. Unfortunately it was him that missed some of our better chances, via both shooting and heading.
Before the game, Reading were 5th in the Avon Combination table, behind Queens Park Rangers, Swindon, Norwich and Oxford. Oxford won 1-0 yesterday, so remain ahead of us, so we will stay fifth unless Norwich lose heavily in their game at Bristol Rovers tonight.
