Report from The Scribe:

There was a bit of an end-of-season feel about this game, and a hard pitch (probably the first our players have seen since September!) made it a slightly scrappy game, especially at the start.

Reading started off the better side, and put Bristol Rovers under pressure with a number of corners. In particular, we had two dangerous inswingers that their goalkeeper only just managed to knock away beyond the far post. We had further chances from corners, but then in the last 20 minutes or so of the half the away side came back at us.

At half-time Jamie Leacock came on for Chris Smith. Early in the half, some poor defending allowed the Rovers number 11 to cut through the centre and get a shot in. It wasn't a strong shot, but somehow it managed to get past Jamie Ashdown in our goal who may have got his angles wrong.

After an hour, Nathan Tyson got Reading back on terms with a good strong shot across the keeper and in at the far post. He originally received the ball on the left-hand edge of the penalty area and had to shrug off a defender to even make the chance. Soon after we took the lead when the Rovers keeper dropped a cross more-or-less at the feet of Leacock who hammered the ball home.

Out best action in the remainder of the game was a tremendous run by Nicky Shorey, going right through Rovers players. He got a shot in at the end but it was deflected and just went past the post to go out for a corner instead of the goal his run deserved.

Scott Williams came on for Alex Haddow, and then with 10 minutes left we also had to replace Ashdown with Simon Cox. Ashdown came to collect a ball and collided with a forward, injuring his arm. Reading were well in command of the game at this stage, so Cox had no real saves to make.

The game ended 2-1, and with it a very successful season for our reserves.
