Derek Simpson
Born in Lanark on 23/12/1978.
Midfielder Derek Simpson was part of the Reading youth set-up from the early 1990s. He was listed as an associated schoolboy from 1991 to 1993 and then as a trainee from 1993 to 1997. He left Reading to join Slough Town, and moved on to Basingstoke Town for the 1998/99 and 1999/2000 seasons. He also played for Basingstoke against Reading in 1999 in a pre-season friendly. Basingstoke did put him on the transfer list later that season but he stayed at the club.
He joined Hampton & Richmond in the summer of 2000, and by April 2001 was at Andover where he stayed until the end of the 2001/02 season. He was working as a recruitment consultant and also playing for Theale in the Reading Sunday League.
For the 2002/03 season, he joined AFC Wallingford in the Combined Counties Premier League.
